The Coach's Tip to Building Rapport

There's a big misconception that motivational speeches have to be way over the top all the time. You know what I mean -- yelling and screaming. Now don't get me wrong. There is nothing with going over the top to motivate others, but there are other styles.

This clip from the movie Rudy offers an effective motivational style. While viewing the clip, listen for the personalization of the coach's message. He is talking on his players level ...he says, no one comes into our house and pushes us around. He starts another phrase with...now you seniors.
Also listen for the use of vocal variety, pregnant pauses, low pitch and vocal power.

If you can remember to personalize your message and add a touch of vocal variety, you are on track to connect with your audience.
