Connect With Your Young Workforce

Bringing out the best in others is no easy task, especially when we have trouble connecting with them. I'm talking about Gen Y. There has been lots of talk on working with the younger generation - also labeled the Young and Restless, but now talking alone is not enough. Now we must take action as these young guns flood the workforce. They are bright and high on technology.

Cindy Ventrice, the author of the best-selling book Make Their Day! Employee Recognition That Works and the companion guide Recognition Strategies That Work, shares three ideas on her blog to help connect with young workers. They are:

  1. Have frequent 1:1 meetings.
  2. Elicit their opinions and explain your decision-making process.
  3. Give challenging assignments and provide guidance rather than directives.
