Do you need a personal mission statement?

In Stephen Covey’s bestseller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, he discusses the importance of having a personal mission statement. Don’t let the phrase mission statement through you for a loop. Believe me, I’m aware the concept equates to lip service in many of our organizations. If you’d like, you can refer to a personal mission statement as a philosophy or a belief. Whatever we choose to call it, Covey believes that such a statement assists us to “focus on what we want to be (character) and to do (contributions and achievements) and on the values or principles upon which being and doing are based.”
